Donald Trump’s presidency will probably mark the end of legalized Marijuana both recreational and medicinally. Donald Trump on the campaign trail said “In terms of marijuana and legalization, I think that should be a state issue, state-by-state… Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.”But the problem with this is that he appointed Jeff Sessions as his attorney general. Sessions is against legalizing marijuana for either recreational or medicinal use. “I’m a big fan of the DEA”, he said during a hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sessions was “heartbroken” and found “it beyond comprehension” when President Obama claimed that cannabis is not as dangerous as alcohol. In April 2016, he said that it was important to foster “knowledge that this drug is dangerous, you cannot play with it, it is not funny, it’s not something to laugh about… and to send that message with clarity that good people don’t smoke marijuana.” And he said that he only was against the kkk when he found out that some members smoke weed. As of November 9, 2016, the use of both recreational and medicinal marijuana has been entirely legalized in the states of Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. The District of Columbia has fully legalized recreational and medical marijuana, but recreational commercial sale is currently blocked by Congress. Twelve states have both medical marijuana and decriminalization laws (three of them being CBD only[clarification needed]). Twelve states, Guam, and Puerto Rico have legalized psychoactive medical marijuana, while another twelve have only legalized non-psychoactive medical marijuana. One state and the U.S. Virgin Islands have only decriminalized possession laws. In the remaining five states and two inhabited territories, marijuana possession and sales are illegal and prohibited entirely.
