Do State Smoking Bans Effect Smokers? How E Cigarettes Are Helping Smokers

As a result of the activity to pass laws that ban smoking tobacco products, most work areas, businesses, and other public places have taken it upon themselves to create a non-smoking environment. Smokers realize that those who do not smoke find the smell to be offensive, and therefore abide by the rules of approved smoking area. However, here are some ideas as to how state smoking bans are effecting smokers, and how e cigarettes are helping smokers avoid the bans.

When legislature got in on making laws against public smoking, it quickly caused smokers to feel as if they had been labeled as Third Class Citizens. People who have never been addicted to any type of nicotine product need to understand that it is not just the drug that is addictive. The physical actions of the act of smoking are just as habit forming.

“Habit forming” is the wrong term to use in connection with the addiction to nicotine. Nicotine addiction is as difficult to break as being addicted to heroine. The only part of smoking that is a habit is the physical repetition of reaching for another cigarette which adds a level to the equation which legislature does not address.

There is a new product which offers hope for solving both sides of the issue of smoking, and it is called the e-cigarette. This device has none of the thousands of harmful chemicals being released from it which are part of the debate over conventional smoking. University research has indicated that when a person inhales the vapor from an e-cigarette there is no measurable amount of nicotine found in their blood stream. This makes the e-cigarette a viable possibility for smokers to still have their physical habits of the smoking act.

The U. S. Government tried and failed to prohibit the use, sale, or production of alcohol. There is no chance that a law will stop people from smoking somewhere. Smoking is an addiction as well as a habit. People are addicted to the nicotine, but they have a physical habit of reaching for a cigarette, lighting it, and taking a puff. Smokers just happen to keep feeding the nicotine addiction in the process. Laws may govern what constitutes ‘clean air’, but no laws will ever break any addictions.

The product known as the e-cigarette offers hope to millions of smokers that a possible compromise may already exist. They do not deliver nicotine in the form of second hand smoke. These electronic cigarettes use an e-liquid which has flavors that taste like cigarettes, and produce a smokeless vapor cloud.

The most impressive thing about the e-cig is that it does not have any of the thousands of reported carcinogens found in traditional cigarette smoke. There is nothing other than flavoring, and a person’s choice in milligrams of strength in nicotine. Should research continue to prove that there is no measurable amount of nicotine in the ‘smoker’s’ blood after taking a puff from these devices, then this product could be the end all for methods to quit smoking.

This improved e-cigarette at least provides smokers who do not wish to quit smoking a healthier option to tobacco products. They will also satisfy their physical habit of holding a cigarette in their hand, and going through the motions of still smoking a cigarette. When there is no actual ‘smoke’ being produced there is no second hand smoking issue to legislate.

The e-cig provides the satisfaction of smoking a real cigarette without passing along any of the harmful toxins to other people around them. It would appear that this device is the answer to both sides of the issue about second hand smoke. However, the debate still continues as to how state smoking bans are effecting smokers, and how e cigarettes are helping smokers avoid the bans.
